Street Law Project:
This mini project was on learning to know and use your rights to keep from being put into a vulnerable position when it comes to dealing with the law. We started out the project by learning about our rights, and how they can change based on the situation a person is in. We then chose something we found interesting and expanded our knowledge of it, I chose to learn more about rights we have while in a vehicle. I then created a mini project in the form of a flipbook answering questions related to this topic.
I decided to focus on how a person’s rights change when in a vehicle, and answer questions commonly asked by teens about driving. I chose to create a project using this information because I feel like it is important for teens to know their rights while driving. This way they will not be put into a vulnerable position and will know how to handle encounters with police officers while utilizing their rights.
If I were to look further into this topic, I would want to learn more about how to ensure a person’s rights are not being violated during interactions with law enforcement. I learned a lot about rights directly related to being within a car, but would want to learn about my rights in other areas as well. It is important for a person to know their rights in all areas of life not just while in car. Also, I would want to learn exactly how a person could use their rights without seeming as if they are hiding something or being evasive.
