Dia de los Muertos Project
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the dead) is a celebration in Mexico, and
many other places around the word that honors the dead. This is a day to bring
back memories of dead loved ones, and to devote time to honor their lives. Many
people believe their loved ones truly come back from the dead at this time.
During this project, we learned about Dia de los Muertos and why it is
celebrated. We learned the origins of the holiday, what people do, how people
build altars to their loved ones, and what each day of the holiday represents.
Based on this information, we created a visual representation of a loved one who
had died (this could be a skeletal figurine, a picture/painting, etc.), brought
in an item or picture to represent this person and to add the altar made in
class, and finally, a written piece describing who this person was, and memories
we have of them. We presented this as an exhibition after completing it

My Project:
animales, sembraba y cosechaba plantas.
Aunque no

From this project, I learned about a lot of the culture of Mexico, and
how celebrations differ from in America. What may seem very different or even
strange to us living in the U.S. (like creating skeletons and building an altar)
is not a big deal in Mexico, it is just what everyone is used to, a part of
their culture. I was proud of the way the skeletal figure turned out in my
project, I worked hard on it, and it didn't end up looking too cheesy as I had
expected it would. It was at first difficult for me to take this project
seriously, but then I realized that however strange this may seem to me, it is a
normal part of life to those living in Mexico. I was able to remember my great
grandfather and the great things about him. I was also able to learn more about
him through this project, and truly see what kind of person he was.
